Aside from Miss Kuyamis pageant, the provincial government of Misamis Oriental under the dynamic leadership of Gov. Bambi Emano, known as the Father of Kuyamis Festival, Queen of MisOr is now making a name in the local pageant scene as it has opened its doors for transwomen. Held every two-years, Queen of MisOr was first staged in 2017 with Latlat Andaya as the first grand winner, and later brought the name of the province in the Queen of Philippines 2019.
This year, Lars Pacheco bringing the pride of the Municipality of Jasaan was crowned as grand winner of Queen of MisOr 2020 besting sixteen lovely candidates on January 11 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.
During the final round, each candidate was asked the same question “If you will win the crown (Queen of Misamis Oriental) how will you influence your fellow LGTBTQA+ members in promoting Misamis Oriental?” Every candidate answered their best but Pacheco stood out by capturing the hearts of the judges through her impressive retort, as well as the crowd by encouraging the members of her community to join hand in promoting the province’s destinations before others.
“The people of Misamis Oriental are very, very hospitable. The government of MisOr envisions to be the leading eco-tourism destination in the near future, why not? We have a lot to offer to tourists, we have numerous waterfalls such as Sagpulon falls, we have Agutayan White island, and always remember that we should be proud again because we are the keepers of many endangered species such as the Philippine sailfin lizards.
“I would like to say to everyone most especially to the LGBT community that is watching right now before you promote Boracay, Palawan, Baguio, promote your own. Always remember that we should love our own,” Pacheco concluded.
Lars is followed by her runners-up namely: Elly Canillo of Naawan, Llanie Lagarve of El Salvador, Kathy Fox of Salay, and Kirk Popiolek of Tagoloan respectively.
